On the IBC initiative, a meeting was held at the Business Development and Investment Council under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The implementation of the recommendation on early adoption of the draft Rules for cutting and the Provision for compensatory planting of especially valuable tree species was discussed. The Rules should consider business opinion, the meeting participants said.

The matter is that subsoil users cannot fully develop fields without rules for cutting. According to the draft provisions on compensatory plantings, the responsibility for planting is assigned to subsoil users, which contradicts the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and cannot be implemented in practice.

The meeting decided that the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (SAEPF) and IBC, with the assistance of the Investment Council, will work out a joint position on the basis of consensus as soon as possible.
