Measures to support entrepreneurship, the implementation of the decisions of the Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Committee, and the role of business in the post-crisis period were considered.

On May 22, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with Askar Sydykov, Executive Director of the International Business Council, Deputy Chairman of the Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Committee under the National Sustainable Development Council of the Kyrgyz Republic.

They discussed the implementation of the Committee’s decisions, measures to support entrepreneurship in the current situation, and the role of business in the post-crisis period.

In all state strategic documents, support for entrepreneurship and the creation of favorable conditions for business are the main directions, the President said. Along with the ongoing work to improve the conditions for doing business and increase the investment attractiveness of the country, a number of systemic problems remain, he added.

President Jeenbekov stressed the importance of strengthening a constructive dialogue between government agencies and business.

IBC Executive Director Askar Sydykov spoke about positive results of the Committee’s work: an Industry Development Strategy was adopted, incentives for light industry were created, and a Government resolution will soon be canceled, which encouraged law enforcement agencies to impose additional payments on entrepreneurs.

In less than a year 152 proposals were developed on the development of priority sectors of the economy and the solution of problematic issues for entrepreneurs, Sydykov said.

The creation of a special department for working with entrepreneurs in the structure of the General Prosecutor’s Office found positive feedback from representatives of business community, he added.

At the same time, a number of decisions of the Committee have not yet been fully implemented. In this regard, reforms to regulate the economy are necessary.

Askar Sydykov also noted that, despite the current crisis in the domestic economy, there are many opportunities to attract investment in agriculture, energy, mining, etc.

The Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Committee under the National Sustainable Development Council of the Kyrgyz Republic was created by the Decree of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov in December 2018. The Committee is a dialogue platform between the state and business to solve the most pressing problems of entrepreneurship.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic heads the Committee. His deputies are IBC Executive Director Askar Sydykov and Deputy Prime Minister Erkin Asrandiev.

The Committee includes Parliament deputies, heads of state bodies, representatives of business community and associations.
