IBC and JIA discuss problems and development prospects of construction materials sector

On February 26, IBC and JIA Business Association with the support of USAID Business Growth Initiative (BGI) project held a roundtable titled "Problems and Development Prospects of the Construction Materials Sector in the Kyrgyz Republic" as part of “Construction Materials Value Chain Study – Stakeholder Analysis” Project.

Kyrgyz MP Samatbek Ibrayev and Paul Hamlin, Economic Development Advisor of the USAID Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic welcomed the participants. Presentations were made by Fred Levitan, Component Leader, Private Sector Competitiveness (USAID BGI), Timur Gainanov, Program Manager, Mining and Construction Materials Sector Development (USAID BGI) and Temirbek Ajykulov, Chairman of the Construction Committee of JIA Business Association.

Given the importance of the construction materials industry for the national economy, IBC and JIA with the support of USAID Business Growth Initiative (BGI) project are conducting a study of the current situation and opportunities for the development of the construction materials sector.

The participants discussed conditions necessary for the development of construction materials industry in the country, as well as changes and risks related to the forthcoming accession of Kyrgyzstan to the Eurasian Economic Union. Suggestions and comments made by the representatives of the construction sector will be taken into account in the course of implementation of the project.
