The deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh proposed the draft law in order to reduce tobacco smoking

On September 19, 2014 the draft Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (on reduction of tobacco smoking)” came in the Jogorku Kenesh.

The draft law was prepared in order to reduce impact of tobacco smoking and other forms of tobacco consumption on smokers and people surrounding them and it is aimed to prevent expansion of smoking.

It was proposed by the draft law to increase basic excise tax rate on cigarettes during 2015 – 2017, to remove from the Tax Code the notion of maximum retail price and introduction of the notion “minimal retail price” to the Law “On Protection of the Kyrgyz Republic Citizens’ Health from Harmful Tobacco Impact”. Moreover, the draft law stipulates measures which complicate stimulation of tobacco products sale, advertisement and sponsorship of tobacco and tobacco products and extension of the list of the places and premises where smoking is prohibited, etc.
