IBC and CLDP experts discuss role of law in Kyrgyzstan’s development

IBC Executive Director Temirbek Azhykulov met with representatives of Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of U.S. Department of Commerce - Nnamdi Kalu Ezera, Senior Counsel and Michael Cofield, Attorney-Advisor.

The meeting discussed regulatory reform in Kyrgyzstan, the role of law in development of the state, as well as the problem of business related to corruption. According to the IBC investment survey conducted in April 2015, corruption of officials has become a major barrier to business development, Azhykulov said. He also spoke about good dialogue established between the state and business in the country.

The participants also considered the results of the business forum "Kyrgyzstan the country of new opportunities" and the 10th anniversary Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting. Established in 1992, CLDP is a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce that helps achieve U.S. foreign policy goals in developing and post-conflict countries through commercial legal reforms.
