IBC joins the Business Ombudsman Institution Supervisory Board

The first meeting of the Business Ombudsman Institution (BOI) Supervisory Board of the Kyrgyz Republic is scheduled for March 7, 2019.

The meeting will consider the Supervisory Board formation and the approach to the Business Ombudsman’s selection.

The five associations - the International Business Council, the American Chamber of Commerce in the Kyrgyz Republic (AmCham), the JIA Business Association, the Association of Markets, Trade and Service Enterprises and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic will participate in the BOI Supervisory Board on an ongoing basis.

IBC will be represented by Executive Director Askar Sydykov and alternative representative Daniyar Mederov, Deputy Executive Director.

On January 8, 2019, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziyev signed a Resolution on the establishment of the Business Ombudsman Institution the country to protect the rights, freedoms and legal interests of entrepreneurs.

The document was approved taking into account the views of government agencies, businesses and international organizations.

On October 19, 2018, the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic submitted for public discussion a draft Government Resolution “On the authorized person to protect the rights of business entities (Business Ombudsman)”.

IBC participated in the interdepartmental working group (IWG), established on July 3, 2018 under the Economy Ministry to develop drafts of regulatory legal acts on the creation of a Business Ombudsman Institution in the country. The IWG discussed all the comments and suggestions to the document up to the final wording. During its development, the best international practices, including the successful experience of Ukraine, were taken into account.
