On October 9, 2020 Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) will host a webinar “The Potential of Open Data for Economic Recovery and Good Governance in the OSCE Region”.
This series of capacity building workshops aim to discuss how open data might serve as a strategic tool to improve integrity and accountability and build stakeholder capacity through the presentation of good practices and new/emerging innovative tools. The current crisis provides a challenging environment for preventing corruption, with vast amounts of government procurement funneled into sectors with often limited time and capacity for oversight. Can open government reinforce relevant anti-corruption efforts by strengthening transparency tools and improve public sector integrity and accountability? Through which mechanisms? How does this relate to the recovery of economic growth and creating a positive business and investment climate in the long-run?
The Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) is building on its open data initiatives for the OSCE region by providing venues for expert presentations from other multilateral and development organizations working in this field, to generate open discussions and build capacity among various relevant stakeholders to learn about the potential of open data for economic recovery and good governance. The thematic discussions/issues will be anchored on three main pillars:
- Understanding the policy response and what is the role of open data;
- Analyze collaboration models around emergency decision making;
- Review the emerging innovative partnerships established among different organizations during the pandemic to address economic recovery and highlight possible best-practices.
